Hi @clinicians-who-code
I am thinking of putting on some kind of Clinicians Who Code Conference over the summer. It’s likely to be in Yorkshire, probably York (that’s where I live) unless someone throws me an offer of a free venue somewhere else.
Can I test some hypotheses with you all? Please tick as appropriate
- I am interested in a Clinicians Who Code Conference
- I would attend a Clinicians Who Code Conference
- I would have a project or tutorial I would like to present at a Clinicians Who Code Conference
- I would come to Clinicians Who Code Conference but not if it is in York
- I would sponsor a Clinicians Who Code Conference in return for ethically-appropriate and reasonable benefits
- I have a perfect venue for about 50 - 80 clinical meganerds and it has bulletproof WiFi and coffee-making facilities.
I would aim to make it free to attend, however this might not be possible given venue costs (and sometimes we have found with NHSHD that ‘free’ results in people booking tix but then deciding against it on the day and not bothering to turn up)
If you have thoughts/ideas about any of the above, please feel free to feed back below.
There was an encouraging response on the Clinicians Who Code private category on Digital Health Networks with 10 or so people saying they would come to a CwC Conf in York, so I’m also cross-posting here for a slightly different group to let me know if it’s of interest.
Based on the initial good response which included some key ‘CwCs’ I know, I reckon we’ve got an event.
Dates and location to follow soon.
When you say clinicians, do you mean doctors?
Or is this more general? I’m becoming more aware the work I’m doing needs a ‘information scientists who code” group to push more traditional development and data architecture to a stage it is ready for AI (or also front line analytics).
This is a bit confusing, I think I have the right answer (and borders a bit on hitch hikers guide to the galaxy) but if I don’t get the questions asked, the answer is pointless.

I don’t think we’d turn someone away for not being a patient-facing clinician, but in general this particular event is aimed at supporting and developing skills in that niche community of Clinicians Who Code.
There are already communities for information science/data science/analysts across the NHS, often focusing on coding and tech development.

Non-clinician, non-information-scientist Healthcare developers (eg health devs in suppliers and in the NHS itself) are their own niche, but as far as I am aware they have never organised into their own ‘community’ or had events. They could do, they are all entirely capable people. They just haven’t. Similarly I run this forum, even though many of them are capable of doing so!
I did run a Health Developer Conference (ie not just for Clinicians) once (as part of Rewired March 2020) but then COVID killed off subsequent events. I would be happy for someone to resurrect the Health Dev Conference, and maybe I’ll do one again in the future, but equally I can’t be the only person responsible for doing these things!
