Mark is an NHS GP with a background in clinical informatics, business, systems implementation and management.

He has worked variously at local, regional and national level, including as a CCIO (in Essex / East of England), DH and Connecting for Health, in the NHS and founded a number of health IT-related businesses. In early 2015 Mark set up Operon Ltd, which aims to provide a cloud-hosted, open-standards health platform for health and social care.

Most recently Mark co-founded Synapta CIC to support the open digital health and social care community, focusing on open, interoperable and computable resources for clinical knowledge, process and workflow. Mark works clinically on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week and spends the rest of his working time between Synapta and Operon.
